In 2007, when foundry worker, inventor and do-it-yourselfer Justin Kuhn grew tired of scraping tough material by hand, he decided he would rather work smarter than harder.
Kuhn fashioned a scraper blade to fit into his reciprocating saw, allowing the power of the saw to complete the tedious manual work in a fraction of the time. The unique, new tool was named the Spyder Scraper because using it was like having eight hands instead of just one, thus saving time to complete the job.
Contractors, flooring professionals and do-it-yourselfers loved it, as did the people who write about tools. Spyder Scraper has been recognized as:
- New Product of the Year – 2008 National Hardware Show
- A “Top Pick” of home improvement expert Danny Lipford’s – 2009 International Builders’ Show.
SM Products, owned by serial entrepreneurs Dr. Joseph & Judy Roetheli, acquired Spyder Scraper in 2008 and Ryan Campbell, experienced in manufacturing as well as mergers and acquisitions is the General Manager.
The brand Spyder Products was then created with the intent of developing a full line of professional grade tools to handle tough material removal tasks that included multiple Spyder Scraper blade sizes, the Spyder Grout-Out tool, and the Spyder Bore-Blade. Other product introductions are in the works for 2011 and beyond.
